Ivy El-Zaatari was born in
Saida Lebanon in 1995, to an American mother and a Lebanese American father.
After 5 years, Ivy and her parents and two older sisters moved to Palmdale,
California. About a year later, Ivy walked into her living room, and witnessed
the destruction of the twin towers on the television, and believed that she was
back in Lebanon. She attributes this
moment to the first time she was curious of the differences between America and
other nations. When Ivy’s parents divorced soon after moving to California, her
mother was a single mom with three girls working on the minimum wage of $8 an
hour. She applied for welfare, and was rejected. Without hesitating, she worked
40+ hours a week and studied to receive her Real Estate license and was able to
lift her daughters into a comfortable lifestyle. She is Ivy’s greatest role model
for teaching her about what it means to have a great work ethic and a positive
attitude. Ivy now lives in Colorado Springs and is a full time student at the University
of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where she is studying Political Science and
Media Communications while minoring in Economics. She is passionate, motivated,
and hungry to show each and everybody she meets why America is a country worth
believing in.
